Developing a model for measuring the efficiency of the health system in Canada

Summary: Health system policy- and decision-makers have a responsibility to ensure that scarce health system resources are used judiciously and wisely to provide the best possible health services to Canadians. Part of this responsibility involves a key policy challenge about how to improve public services while containing current and future costs. Doing so requires measuring health system efficiency (an assessment of how well health system resources are combined to produce health services) and identifying and sharing various activities contributing to high performance.
