Boomerism : Business Targets Retirees [videorecording] / Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Boomers are that ubiquitous group of babies born between 1947 and 1966. They're Canada's biggest demographic and they control even bigger bucks! And while some of them are getting ready to retire, they aren't your average blue-haired shuffleboard enthusiasts. They're active, web-savvy and willing to spend! Smart entrepreneurs can cash in on catering to new boomer needs. Former North American ballroom dancing champions Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang are trying to do just that. They run a dance studio, three dancing websites and sell their own dance lesson DVDs. They're tapping into two key areas for marketing to boomers: fitness and the internet. And now they're making a pitch to celebrity venture capitalist Tim Draper, the deep pockets behind mega start-ups like Hotmail and Skype. Can the Tangs take their company global?
